STEM education encompasses four academic disciplines: science, technology, engineering, and mathematics. Our Lady of Grace Catholic School incorporates religion and art, creating STREAM. STREAM is incorporated into all disciplines in Preschool-8th grade so that students build critical thinking skills. Classroom experiences are student-led, experiential, inquiry-based activities designed to build confidence, facilitate problem-solving and critical thinking skills, and provide a strong foundation of gratitude, passion, empathy and a commitment to service. STREAM equips students with 21st century skills, preparing future generations to thrive in STEM-related businesses and industries. OLGCS Teachers are continually receiving professional development opportunities to keep our curriculum challenging and engaging for all types of learners. Students leave OLGCS highly prepared for the academic challenges in high school and beyond.
STEM education at Our Lady of Grace Catholic School begins in preschool and continues through the students' 8th grade year. Students learn to work with authentic tools as young as 3 years old, and then graduate onto power tools in the intermediate grades. Our primary teachers incorporate the STEM educational approaches into everyday curriculum. Our 8th graders have the opportunity to work up close and personal with Purdue University students and staff in the EPICS (Engineering Projects in Community Service) program. This unique program gives these middle schoolers a taste of real life engineering opportunities in their community.
Our preschool students have an entire classroom dedicated to STEM learning. Our primary grades study research and data analysis techniques with real projects. Our intermediate and middle school students build, design, and produce new creations.
Our facilities are designed for STEM utilization. A makerspace is home to our award-winning robotics team. We have a fully-functioning woodshop in which students are educated on everything from carpentry to engineering. The OLG Robonauts Competition teams feature elementary (4th-5th Grade) and middle school (6th-8th Grade) divisions. Team members apply and are selected by coaches. Contact Mrs. Scott for more info.
